Dentures - Complete, Partial, & Custom![]() What Are Complete and Partial Dentures? Both complete and partial dentures are removable appliances. You can take them in and out of your mouth if you need to. You also need to remove them at night to allow your mouth the opportunity to heal. These appliances help return the natural form, appearance, and function of your teeth. Both complete and partial dentures are made of a mixture of metal, plastic, acrylic, and porcelain. We want your dentures to feel as natural as possible, and these materials allow us to make your dentures tough enough to handle chewing and speaking. Complete dentures can replace both your upper and lower jaws. Partial dentures usually replace two or more teeth, usually on one side, or the same teeth on opposite sides of your mouth. Why Would I Need Complete or Partial Dentures? If you are missing teeth due to tooth decay, the effects of smoking, gum disease, accident or injury, you need to replace them. That’s because the pressures in your mouth can shift your teeth around to take the place of your missing teeth. Also, after you lose teeth, if they aren’t replaced, you will begin to lose gum tissue and bone. This loss can change the shape of your face over time. Full or partial dentures can keep your gum tissue and bone structures healthy. Partial dentures are less expensive than full dentures. They are also less invasive. Like full dentures, partial dentures require daily cleaning. When you come to visit us, you need to also bring your dentures, so that we can check them. Another benefit of partial dentures is that we can expand them if you need us to due to further tooth loss. How Do We Make Dentures? We can use x-rays to make a model of your dentures. If you don’t have your teeth, we can also use old photographs to help us make a model of your teeth for dentures. We can then create a set of partial or full dentures for you. We can then fit your dentures to your mouth. We might have to readjust your dentures to fit your mouth after a while. Sometimes, we might need to read just because of swelling.
